Inspired by the Village of Pelsall near Walsall, we are inviting everybody in the town, young and old alike to knit a poppy and hand it in at the Town Hall by no later than Friday 27 May 2016. The Town Council plan to use the knitted poppies to decorate around the railings of the main war memorial in the town centre to pay tribute to our wonderful Armed Forces, past and present, to officially commemorate Armed Forces Day. After Armed Forces Day, the poppies will be sewn together into blankets and donated to armed forces charities.
The Town Clerk, Pauline Waterson said "We have a tradition of properly marking Armed Forces Day in Spennymoor, since we granted the Freedom of the Town to the RIFLES, the Town Council are always very proud to fly the Armed Forces Day Flag and support the Drumhead Services on Armed Forces Day. Although knitting is not as popular as it once was, these poppies are really easy to knit and as can be seen in Pelsall, will make a fantastic and fitting display for Armed Forces Day next June."
Please get knitting everyone!!! Poppies.pdf
