Changes to waste collections service

The County Council will commence rolling out a more efficient waste collection service from April this year. This means that recycling will be collected one week and recycling collected the next. The normal day of the visit may also change.

All households in the County will receive a new grey wheeled bin with a blue lid for recycling. You will need to use this for your reycling items rather than the green bag you have nowDurham County Council Guidance Leaflet. The following can be placed in the new grey bin:

  • mixed paper and card;
  • mixed plastic;
  • food tins and drink cans;
  • cartons; and
  • aerosols

Bottles and jars will still be collected in the green plastic box that you currently use. You will need to leave the new grey bin out with the green box one week and the existing waste bin the next week.

In Coxhoe and Quarrington Hill the new recycling bin will be delivered between April and May. You will receive details of the collection day with the delivery of your bin. The new service will then start in mid June although you can use your recycling bin as soon as you get it. If you have a green bag you can either re-use this in or around your home or if you cannot find a new use for it just put it in your new erecycling bin.
