We were fortunate enough to have the Bishop of Durham, the Right Reverend Justin Welby, the future Archbishop of Canterbury, to judge the shortlisted 7 who was accompanied by Clive Auld and Linda Goldie, Town Clerk/Town Team Secretary

Public Meeting held on 12th March 2012
Bishop Auckland Town Council has taken the lead in setting up a Town Team made up of Councillors, traders, residents and anyone who has an interest and desire to help revitalise Bishop Auckland Town Centre.
A public meeting was held in The Four Clocks Centre, Bishop Auckland on Monday 12th March 2012 when over 60 people attended.
The purpose of the meeting was two-fold:
- To set up a Town Team to help revitalise Bishop Auckland Town Centre.
- To get support for a bid for up to £100,000 which the Government was offering to Town and Parish Councils for 12 pilots throughout the country as a result of the independent review into the future of high streets that Mary Portas carried out last year.
Local leaders are being asked to come up with innovative ideas of their own to boost Bishop Auckland Town Centre. People who are ready to try new things, experiment and innovate so that the high street becomes the place to be for local people and visitors alike.
The establishment of the Town Team is to provide a vision and strategic management for Bishop Auckland Town Centre.
Tremendous support from the Town Team enabled the bid to come together with new ideas, new partners and a shared vision to revitalise the town. We consider our bid to be a strong contender and feel that with, or without the money, the Town Team will continue its work for the benefit of the town.
A condition of the bid, was that a video submission had to be provided, setting out why our pilot should be chosen. This had to be short, to the point, and most importantly not professionally made.
As one of our partners in the bid, Bishop Auckland College chose Lewis Raine, BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma Art & Design Student, to put together in only a few days, the video presentation and special thanks are extended to Lewis for his hard work in meeting the deadline.
You can view this short video presentation on YouTube.
The bid was submitted on 31st March 2012 and is available for download
